This ad features an ever-popular atrocious ingredient: SPAM!
Strikingly enhanced by the opponently coloured monster beans this shocking arrangement can serve as an efficient test of our gag reflex.

That do look delicious, welcome to the 80ties, can’t believe what we ate back then!

When I was 18 I took part in a backpacking trip that featured a 3 day survival jaunt in a very remote area of the high Sierra Nevada mountains of California. I was with a group who figured we could feed ourselves with fish from the lakes and streams. This was a very bad idea and we were starving badly when we reconvened. The trip’s leader has a very special bit of contraband in this environment of freeze-dried mountaineering food: two cans of Spam. I had never had it before. He boiled the cans and cut them open we devoured the salty meat and gooey jelly instantly. I had never tasted anything so delicious. Even now, I can’t quite see this display as disgusting. It looks kind of edible to me. That just goes to show that the setting is quite important. I would discounted that can of Spam as practically dog food in most other circumstances. Starvation gives you a unique perspective on food.

If you are truly starving, you will happily accept a can of dog food too. Everything here is edible, and some of it may even taste alright. But still…

Yes – Spam is one (very small) step removed from dog food. I certainly grant you that.
